A new tooth, placed under sedationYou rest. You come round. The hard part is already done.
An implant is the nearest you can get to growing a new tooth, and here it happens in a day surgery while you're fully relaxed under sedation. No drill you can hear, no procedure you have to sit through.

Your new tooth
The implant, under the gum
This is an implant. A small post that sits in place of the root, with a custom-made tooth on top.
$5,500per toothWhat an implant actually is
Three small parts, one new tooth
Tap the numbers on the diagram. Once the three parts are together, it looks, feels and chews like a natural tooth, and it's the nearest dentistry gets to growing one back.
A custom-made porcelain tooth, shaped and colour-matched to the teeth beside it. It's the only part anyone ever sees, and most people stop being able to pick it themselves.
A small, precision-made link that joins your new tooth to the implant below it. You'll never see or feel it, but it's what holds everything firmly together.
A small titanium post that quietly takes the place of your tooth's root, under the gum. Over a few months your bone grips it the way it once held your natural root, which is what makes an implant feel so solid. This is the part placed under sedation.
All three parts are included in the $5,500 per tooth guide price.
Is this you?
The reasons people end up here
Nobody wakes up wanting an implant. There's always a story behind it, and whichever one is yours, you won't be judged for it here. Tap any that sound familiar.
An implant fills the gap for good, with a tooth matched so closely to its neighbours that most people stop noticing it, including you. Smiling stops being something you manage.
When a tooth is truly beyond repair, an implant is usually the strongest way to replace it. Dr Niels can often plan the removal and the implant together, so you only need sedation once.
An implant doesn't move, rub or come out at night. It's fixed in place, so you can eat, talk and laugh without thinking about it. For many long-time denture wearers, that's the whole point.
A missing back tooth quietly changes how you eat. An implant gives that side of your mouth back, so meals stop being a balancing act you've gotten used to.
Neighbouring teeth slowly drift into a gap over time. An implant holds that space the way the original tooth did, which helps keep your bite the way it should be. The earlier it's looked at, the simpler it tends to be.
This is the one we hear most. It's exactly why our implants are placed in a day surgery under sedation. Most people remember very little of the part they were dreading.
Whatever brought you here, it starts with a relaxed consultation. Dr Niels will check whether an implant is right for you, and it's completely okay if it's been years since your last visit.
The part that makes us different
Sedated for all of it
Your implant is placed in a proper day surgery under IV sedation or general anaesthetic, so most people remember very little of the part they dread.
- An anaesthetist watches over you
A Medical Anaesthetist whose only job is you: your breathing, your heart, your comfort, the whole way through.
- A day surgery, not a dental chair
Your implant is placed in a theatre in Chermside, with a quiet recovery room to rest in afterwards.
- No sounds, no smells, no watching
The drill, the tray of instruments, the long mouth-open stretch: you're sedated for all of it, and most people remember very little.

One morning
Placement day, under sedation
Your implant is placed at the day surgery while you're under IV sedation or general anaesthetic. You rest in recovery and head home the same day.
How it feels: your sedation starts, and most people remember very little until recovery. For most people the day feels strangely easy.

A few months
Quiet healing time
Under the gum, your bone slowly grips the implant until it's rock solid. You live completely normally, with a check-up along the way, and options to cover any visible gap while you wait.
How it feels: like nothing. This step is mostly just time passing.

A short visit
Your new tooth is fitted
Your custom-made tooth is attached to the implant, your bite is checked until it feels right, and that's it. No sedation needed for this one, there's nothing to dread.
How it feels: like getting the ending you've been waiting for.
Your timing may differ a little. Healing time depends on your mouth, and if you need a bone graft there can be an extra step. Dr Niels will map out your exact journey at your consultation, in plain English.
After your implant
Recovery
Most people find implant recovery gentler than they expected, especially having slept through the procedure itself. Here's what the first week or so usually looks like, told straight.
- You go home with a simple aftercare sheet, written in plain English, so you're never guessing.
- You can call us with any worry. No question is too small, and we'd always rather hear from you.
- Everyone heals at their own pace. Dr Niels will tell you what to expect for your mouth, not the average one.

What most people notice
A quiet truth: the implant site often surprises people by how little it bothers them. The strangest part is usually just knowing it's there.

More than one tooth?
Implants come in more than one shape
A single implant is just the start. When there's more than one tooth missing, a few implants can carry a whole row, or a whole smile, and it all still happens under sedation.

A few teeth in a row
An implant bridge
When a few neighbouring teeth are missing, you don't need an implant for every one. Two implants can hold a bridge of three or more teeth, fixed in place, nothing resting on your natural teeth.
- Fewer implants than teeth, which keeps the cost down
- Fixed in place, never taken out at night
- Placed under sedation, like everything here

A whole new smile
All-on-X, a full arch
When most or all of the teeth in a jaw are missing or failing, a handful of implants can hold a complete fixed set of new teeth. One arch, one clear surgical fee, placed in one session under sedation.
- A full set that stays in, no taking it out at night
- Often costs less than many single implants
- Surgery and teeth in one guide price
What happens on the day
Your day, from arriving to heading home.
Not knowing what happens is most of the fear, so here is the whole day, step by step. Walk through it at your own pace.
Step 1 · Before the day
Everything arrives in writing first.
Your written plan tells you exactly when to stop eating and drinking, what to bring, and what to leave at home. You will have organised someone to take you home, and if any question comes up in between, you can just call us.
Step 2 · Arriving
A quiet arrival, not a waiting room.
You come to the day surgery in the morning, and someone who knows you are coming meets you. The paperwork is mostly already done. There is no sitting in a row of chairs listening to a dental clinic at work.
Step 3 · Settling in
You meet the person who watches over you.
You settle in, change into something comfortable, and meet your anaesthetist, the person whose only job today is you. Ask them anything at all. Someone can stay with you right up until your sedation starts.
Step 4 · Sedation starts
A small drip, and you settle into sedation.
A small drip goes into the back of your hand, a quick scratch and it is done. For most people it simply feels like getting heavier. There is nothing you have to do, and nothing you have to be brave about.
Step 5 · During treatment
The work happens. You are watched the whole time.
While you're sedated, Dr Niels does the agreed treatment, and the anaesthetist watches your breathing, heart rate and oxygen without a break. Long appointments pass easily when you're deeply relaxed.
Step 6 · Coming round
You come round slowly, with it done.
You come round in the recovery room with a nurse nearby, and you take as long as you need. Feeling groggy is normal and it passes. Most people are surprised how gentle this part is.
Step 7 · Heading home
Someone you trust takes you home.
Once you are ready, the person you organised drives you home, with written instructions for the evening, what to eat, and how to take it easy. We check in with you the next day to see how you are going.
Every day surgery day runs to a plan, and the exact times for yours come with your written treatment plan, so there is no guesswork on the morning.

Depends on your cover
Every option has its own terms and approval process, and we will walk you through what applies to you. MediPay is a credit provider. Accessing superannuation early affects your retirement savings, so we recommend independent financial advice before going down that path.

Questions
Implant questions, answered
The questions people most often ask us about implants, with no sugar-coating.
Still wondering about something?
Ask us anything. There are no silly questions here.
You're sedated while the implant is placed, and the area is fully numbed as well, so most people feel and remember very little of the procedure. Afterwards, some tenderness for a few days is normal, and most people manage comfortably with simple pain relief.
Yes. Your implant is placed in a day surgery under IV sedation or general anaesthetic, with a Medical Anaesthetist watching over you. The only visits you're awake for are the gentle ones, like your consultation and having your new tooth fitted.
With good care, implants can last for decades, and many never need replacing. Like natural teeth, they need regular check-ups and cleans over the years, which are charged separately, and your home care makes a real difference.
Age on its own is rarely the deciding factor. Your general health and the bone in your jaw matter far more, and plenty of people get implants in their 60s, 70s and beyond. Dr Niels will give you an honest answer at your consultation.
Often it's still very doable. The bone can shrink over time where a tooth is missing, so some people need a bone graft first, which your 3D scan will show clearly. You won't be judged for how long it's been, whatever the story.
Your implant is placed in a day surgery with a Medical Anaesthetist monitoring you throughout, which is a higher level of care than a standard dental visit. Like any surgery, there are some risks, and Dr Niels will talk them through with you at your consultation.
Usually a few months from consultation to finished tooth, and most of that is quiet healing time where you just live your life. The placement itself takes one morning, and the final fitting is a short, gentle visit.
An implant stands on its own, so nothing rests on your other teeth and nothing comes out at night. A bridge leans on the teeth beside it and a denture sits on the gum. Each has its place, and we'll talk through what genuinely suits you, not just what's newest.
It's custom-made and colour-matched to the teeth beside it, down to the small details. Most people stop being able to pick their implant tooth in the mirror, and that's the standard we work to.
That's common, and there are good options, from a few single implants to a full arch of new teeth. The right answer depends on your mouth and your budget, and our price guide shows how the numbers compare before you even come in.
