Combined General Dentistry
Sedation dentistry in Brisbane. Years of dental work, done under sedation.
Fillings, root canals, crowns, gum treatment. If a list of treatments has been building up, we group as much as safely possible into one or two sedation appointments at Dormir Group Surgical Centre in Chermside, which we operate out of, instead of a long run of separate visits in the chair.
- Fully asleep or deeply relaxed, your choice
- Day surgery run to ANZCA guidelines and standards
- One plan, fewer appointments
Why combine it
A long list of dental work doesn’t need a long list of visits
Done awake, dental work comes in small pieces. Each visit needs its own injections, its own recovery, its own slice of your week, and a bigger list can mean months of appointments before you’re finished.
Under sedation, time works differently. You’re comfortable for hours at a stretch, so Dr Niels can work carefully through several treatments in a single session at Dormir Group Surgical Centre in Chermside, which we operate out of. Most plans come down to one or two appointments, whether you choose to be fully asleep under general anaesthetic or deeply relaxed with Conscious IV Sedation.

What we can combine
Pick a treatment. They all happen under sedation.
Everything below is everyday dentistry, done properly under sedation. Choose any of them to see how it works here, and remember the point of this page: you rarely need them one at a time.
Fillings, as many as you need
A filling removes decay and rebuilds the tooth. Simple enough one at a time, but when several teeth need work, doing them visit by visit drags on for months.
Under sedation, Dr Niels can work through every filling on your plan in a single session, each one placed carefully with no clock-watching and no numbing wearing off halfway.
Root canal therapy, start to finish
A root canal treats infection inside the tooth so you can keep it instead of losing it. Done awake it usually means long appointments over more than one visit, which is exactly why so many people put it off.
Here it’s different. You’re sedated or deeply relaxed, your jaw is rested, and Dr Niels has the time to do the work in one careful sitting wherever possible.
Crowns, prepared while you’re under
A crown is a strong, natural-looking cap that protects a tooth too worn or broken for a filling. The precise preparation work is the long part of the job.
That preparation happens while you’re sedated, often straight after a root canal or alongside fillings, so the tooth is protected as part of the same overall plan rather than another round of visits.
Bridges, gaps closed for good
A bridge replaces a missing tooth by anchoring a new one to its neighbours. It’s a fixed solution, nothing comes in and out, and it keeps the teeth around the gap from drifting.
The preparation of the anchor teeth is done under sedation, commonly in the same session as the rest of your work. If implants suit your gap better, Dr Niels will tell you straight and show you both options.
Gum treatment, done thoroughly in one go
Gum (periodontal) treatment is a deep clean below the gumline that stops gum disease from loosening otherwise healthy teeth. Awake, it’s usually split across several visits because it’s slow, fiddly work.
Under sedation the whole mouth can be treated thoroughly in a single session, which is often the fresh start gums need after years without care.
Deep clean & hygiene, the full reset
If it’s been years, a standard scale and polish isn’t enough. A full professional clean removes the built-up tartar that brushing can’t touch and gives us a clear picture of what’s underneath.
It’s done in the same sedation appointment, so you leave with clean teeth as the baseline for everything else on your plan.
Extractions, folded into the plan
Sometimes a tooth can’t be saved, and taking it out while you’re already sedated means one less visit to come back for. Removals are grouped with the rest of your treatment whenever that’s the right call.
Extractions are a full page of their own, including what happens afterwards and how we plan replacements.
How it runs
From a long list to a finished mouth, in four steps
The Look
Consultation & scan
Dr Niels maps everything that needs doing and builds it into one written plan with one quote. Nothing happens until you’ve said yes to it.
The Sedation
One sedation appointment
Fully asleep under general anaesthetic with Fully Qualified Medical Anaesthetists, or deeply relaxed with Conscious IV Sedation. The list gets worked through while you rest.
The Recovery
Recovery, then home
You come round gently in the day surgery’s recovery area, take your time, and head home the same day with someone to accompany you.
The Check
Review, then routine
A short follow-up to check everything has settled. After that it’s just normal check-ups, with the backlog gone.
Bigger list than one day allows? Some plans are split over two sedation appointments, grouped so each one achieves as much as safely possible. You’ll know the shape of it before anything starts.
Sedation Dentistry, Brisbane
Everyday dentistry, the sedation way
The plain-English version of what this page offers, and where to read more.
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry means having dental treatment while you’re sedated or deeply relaxed instead of awake in the chair. Here it comes in two forms: sleep dentistry under general anaesthetic, where you’re fully asleep with Fully Qualified Medical Anaesthetists caring for you, and Conscious IV Sedation, where you’re drowsy and deeply relaxed with Fully Qualified Medical Anaesthetists looking after you. Both happen at Dormir Group Surgical Centre in Chermside, which we operate out of. The day surgery complies with ANZCA guidelines and standards, and you’re home the same day. Our sedation options page compares the two in detail.
Who combined general dentistry suits
Anyone whose dental work has stacked up. Maybe life got busy, appointments never fit around shift work or small kids, a fear of the dentist kept pushing the visit back, or a strong gag reflex made normal treatment a battle. Whatever the reason, the answer is the same: fillings, root canal therapy, crowns, bridges, gum treatment and a full professional clean, grouped into one or two sedation appointments instead of months of separate visits.
Why people choose it in Brisbane

What happens on the day
Your day, from arriving to heading home.
Not knowing what happens is most of the fear, so here is the whole day, step by step. Walk through it at your own pace.
Step 1 · Before the day
Everything arrives in writing first.
Your written plan tells you exactly when to stop eating and drinking, what to bring, and what to leave at home. You will have organised someone to take you home, and if any question comes up in between, you can just call us.
Step 2 · Arriving
A quiet arrival, not a waiting room.
You come to the day surgery in the morning, and someone who knows you are coming meets you. The paperwork is mostly already done. There is no sitting in a row of chairs listening to a dental clinic at work.
Step 3 · Settling in
You meet the person who watches over you.
You settle in, change into something comfortable, and meet your anaesthetist, the person whose only job today is you. Ask them anything at all. Someone can stay with you right up until your sedation starts.
Step 4 · Sedation starts
A small drip, and you settle into sedation.
A small drip goes into the back of your hand, a quick scratch and it is done. For most people it simply feels like getting heavier. There is nothing you have to do, and nothing you have to be brave about.
Step 5 · During treatment
The work happens. You are watched the whole time.
While you're sedated, Dr Niels does the agreed treatment, and the anaesthetist watches your breathing, heart rate and oxygen without a break. Long appointments pass easily when you're deeply relaxed.
Step 6 · Coming round
You come round slowly, with it done.
You come round in the recovery room with a nurse nearby, and you take as long as you need. Feeling groggy is normal and it passes. Most people are surprised how gentle this part is.
Step 7 · Heading home
Someone you trust takes you home.
Once you are ready, the person you organised drives you home, with written instructions for the evening, what to eat, and how to take it easy. We check in with you the next day to see how you are going.
Every day surgery day runs to a plan, and the exact times for yours come with your written treatment plan, so there is no guesswork on the morning.
Ways to pay
More than one way to pay for it.
You will always have a fixed written quote, with item numbers, before anything is booked. When it comes to paying, these are the options we work with.
-

SuperCare
For eligible patients, SuperCare manages the application to access superannuation for approved dental treatment, including the paperwork with the ATO.
Eligibility criteria apply
-

MediPay
Payment plans for dental treatment, often sorted within a day, with funds paid directly to the clinic. You will know the full cost of your treatment before you commit to anything.
Subject to approval · terms apply
-

Health funds & Medicare
Some surgical items attract Medicare or health fund rebates. Your quote includes the item numbers, so you can check exactly what your fund pays before you decide.
Depends on your cover
Every option has its own terms and approval process, and we will walk you through what applies to you. MediPay is a credit provider. Accessing superannuation early affects your retirement savings, so we recommend independent financial advice before going down that path.
