The four impacted wisdom teeth
Why Sedation
Why have wisdom teeth out under sedation?
Wisdom teeth are the treatment people most often choose sedation for, and for good reason. When all four need to go, or they’re sitting at awkward angles, one appointment under IV sedation in a proper surgical setting is simpler and kinder than a string of visits in the chair.
All four, one appointment
No coming back month after month for the next one. All four wisdom teeth are removed in a single session while you’re deeply relaxed, so it’s one recovery instead of four.
Built for the difficult ones
Impacted teeth, awkward angles and roots near nerves belong in a surgical setting with proper imaging. Under sedation, a careful, unhurried removal takes exactly as long as it needs to, and the time passes without you.
Nothing to sit through
With IV sedation you’re deeply relaxed and remember very little, cared for by Fully Qualified Medical Anaesthetists. Prefer to be fully asleep? A general anaesthetic is also available, and we’ll talk it through at your consultation.
Already been told they need to come out? Bring your referral or X-ray to the consultation if you have one. If not, no problem, we take our own 3D scan and you’ll have a fixed written quote the same day.
On The Day
Your appointment, start to finish
Arrive and settle in
A calm welcome at the day surgery, a chat with the team, and time to get comfortable. No waiting-room dread.
Sedation starts
Your anaesthetist takes over from here. Within a minute or so, most people feel deeply relaxed and calm.
All four removed while you rest
Dr Niels works carefully and unhurried in a fully equipped theatre while the anaesthetic team monitors you continuously.
Recover, head home
You come around gently in the recovery room with nurses beside you, then head home with someone you trust, usually by the afternoon.
Before the day, you’ll get clear, simple instructions, including when to stop eating and drinking, and you’ll need someone to drive you home and stay with you that evening.
Recovery
A few quiet days, then back to normal
Everyone heals at their own pace, but because all four teeth come out in one session, you only do this once. Most people plan a couple of easy days on the couch and are surprised how quickly they feel better.
You won’t be guessing either. You’ll go home with clear written aftercare, everything you need for the first few days, and our number if anything feels off. We’re a phone call away the whole time.
Couch, series, soft food
Rest up with someone home with you. Expect some swelling to start and plan a soft menu: think yoghurt, soup and ice cream.
The puffy stage
Swelling and tenderness usually peak around day two or three, then begin to settle. Most people describe it as puffy and tender rather than painful.
Back to your routine
Most people are back at work and eating more normally within a few days to a week. Stitches usually dissolve on their own, so there’s often nothing to come back for.
What It Costs
One clear guide price
$1,350
guide price, whether it’s two, three or all four wisdom teeth
That figure covers the surgical removal of two, three or all four wisdom teeth. Sedation and day surgery fees are separate, and you’ll see your full cost in a fixed written quote before anything goes ahead.
Guide price for the dental treatment only. IV sedation or general anaesthetic and day surgery fees are separate. Your fixed written quote, including those fees, is confirmed after your consultation and 3D scan, before anything goes ahead.
What happens on the day
Your day, from arriving to heading home.
Not knowing what happens is most of the fear, so here is the whole day, step by step. Walk through it at your own pace.
Step 1 · Before the day
Everything arrives in writing first.
Your written plan tells you exactly when to stop eating and drinking, what to bring, and what to leave at home. You will have organised someone to take you home, and if any question comes up in between, you can just call us.
Step 2 · Arriving
A quiet arrival, not a waiting room.
You come to the day surgery in the morning, and someone who knows you are coming meets you. The paperwork is mostly already done. There is no sitting in a row of chairs listening to a dental clinic at work.
Step 3 · Settling in
You meet the person who watches over you.
You settle in, change into something comfortable, and meet your anaesthetist, the person whose only job today is you. Ask them anything at all. Someone can stay with you right up until your sedation starts.
Step 4 · Sedation starts
A small drip, and you settle into sedation.
A small drip goes into the back of your hand, a quick scratch and it is done. For most people it simply feels like getting heavier. There is nothing you have to do, and nothing you have to be brave about.
Step 5 · During treatment
The work happens. You are watched the whole time.
While you're sedated, Dr Niels does the agreed treatment, and the anaesthetist watches your breathing, heart rate and oxygen without a break. Long appointments pass easily when you're deeply relaxed.
Step 6 · Coming round
You come round slowly, with it done.
You come round in the recovery room with a nurse nearby, and you take as long as you need. Feeling groggy is normal and it passes. Most people are surprised how gentle this part is.
Step 7 · Heading home
Someone you trust takes you home.
Once you are ready, the person you organised drives you home, with written instructions for the evening, what to eat, and how to take it easy. We check in with you the next day to see how you are going.
Every day surgery day runs to a plan, and the exact times for yours come with your written treatment plan, so there is no guesswork on the morning.

Questions
Wisdom teeth questions, answered
The questions people most often ask us about wisdom teeth removal, with no sugar-coating.
Still wondering about something?
Ask us anything. There are no silly questions here.
You can be. Most people choose IV sedation, where you're deeply relaxed and remember very little, and a general anaesthetic is there if you'd rather be fully asleep. Either way, it happens at Dormir Group Surgical Centre in Chermside, which we operate out of. The day surgery runs to ANZCA guidelines and standards, with Fully Qualified Medical Anaesthetists caring for you from start to finish. Most people remember very little of the procedure.
For a standard removal, the $1,350 guide price covers the surgery for two, three or all four teeth. IV sedation or general anaesthetic and day surgery fees are separate, and we’ll go through them with you at your consultation. It's a guide price, confirmed as a fixed written quote after your consultation and 3D scan, and if your case needs anything different you'll know before you decide.
Not always, and we'll tell you straight. Some wisdom teeth sit quietly and never cause trouble. The 3D scan shows exactly what yours are doing, and if they can safely stay, that's exactly what we'll recommend.
Since you're sedated either way, most people choose to have all four done in the one session so there's only one recovery. But it's your call, made with the scan in front of you, and there's no pressure either way.
Plan for a few hours at the day surgery all up: settling in, the procedure itself while you're sedated, and unhurried time in the recovery room afterwards. Most people are home by the afternoon.
Soft and cool for the first day or two: yoghurt, soup, smoothies, ice cream. Then build back towards normal as you heal over the week. You'll go home with simple written guidance so there's no guesswork.
Book the day of the procedure off, and most people like a day or two after that while the swelling settles. Many are back at work within a few days, and we'll give you guidance for your situation at the consultation.
